You need boating education in Maryland if you were born after July 1, 1972 and will be operating a motorized vessel on Maryland waters.



Maryland Boating Education Requirements

All persons born on, or after July 1, 1972, must complete a boater safety course and have in their possession proof of completion while operating a numbered or documented vessel on Maryland waters.
Other Maryland Boating Course Requirements
There is no minimum age requirement to take this online course. You do not have to be a resident of Maryland to take this online course.

The Boater Education Card
The Boater Education Card (often referred to as "Maryland boating License" or "Maryland Boater Education Card") is proof that you have successfully completed all state-mandated boater education requirements.
Vessel operators who are required to have a Boater Education Card must carry their card on board the vessel and have it available for inspection by enforcement officers.

The Maryland Interactive Boat Safety Course is approved by the NASBLA. NASBLA is a national nonprofit organization that develops and maintains set standards for boating education in all 50 states and the U.S. territories.
