Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism–Approved Boating Safety Course

The Kansas Interactive Boat Safety Course is approved and accepted by the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism and the U.S. Coast Guard.


The Kansas Interactive Boat Safety Course is approved by the NASBLA. NASBLA is a national non-profit organization that develops and maintains set standards for boating education in all 50 states and the U.S. territories.

Kansas Boating Laws and Regulations


To legally operate a vessel on Kansas waterways, you must have boater education if you meet the following requirements: Persons between 12 and 20 years old who are unaccompanied and operate a PWC, powerboat, or sailboat in Kansas.

There is no minimum age requirement to take this online course.

Age and Operator Restrictions

  • Those 14 and 15 years of age who hold a boating safety certification card may operate a PWC only if under the direct onboard supervision of his or her parent or legal guardian.
  • Those 16 years of age and older who hold a boating safety certification card may operate a PWC without any restrictions.

Do I Need a Boating Card or a Boating License?

Kansas requires that you get your Kansas Boating Education Certificate. The card does not expire and does not need to be renewed. It also fulfills all state requirements.

The Kansas Boating Education Certificate is proof that you have successfully completed all the education requirements. The Kansas Boating Education Certificate will arrive within 8–10 business days after you complete all certification requirements.
